Caring for forests to access water

Water scarcity is one of the main problems that affects the Chiquitanía region in Santa Cruz - Bolivia, mainly in the months of little rainfall. In the La Asunta community, of the Indigenous Territory of the Monkoxi de Lomerío Nation (Santa Cruz - Bolivia) they decided to face this problem by conserving 1,244 hectares of forest, which is a fundamental part of the water catchment system, for its subsequent provision in community homes, 24 hours a day.

The work was developed within the framework of the Indigenous Navigator project, executed in Bolivia by the Center for Legal Studies and Social Research (CEJIS), with the support of IWGIA and the European Union, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) N ° 6: Guarantee the availability of water and its sustainable management.
