Weaving the Chiquitana identity

Cover of Video

The Besiro language is recognized in the Political Constitution of the Plurinational State of Bolivia as one of the official languages; however, little has been done from state authorities to preserve it. For this reason, the inhabitants of the Palmira and San Simón communities of the Indigenous Territory of the Monkoxi Nation of Lomerío (Santa Cruz) began the process of recovering their language, which is part of their identity as indigenous Chiquitanos.

The work was developed within the framework of the Indigenous Navigator project, executed in Bolivia by the Center for Legal Studies and Social Research (CEJIS), with the support of IWGIA and the European Union, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (ODS) N ° 4: Education.

Project developed together with:
Indigenous Central of Native Communities of Lomerío (CICOL)
Plurinational Institute for the Study of Languages and Culture (IPELC)
Institute of Chiquitana Language and Culture (ILCCH)
