The Indigenous Navigator 2021-2025:

The first phases of the Indigenous Navigator have laid a foundation for our vision and mission through the development of a global portal, data collection in communities in 11 pilot countries and financing of community-based pilot projects based on the gaps identified in the implementation of their rights.

Our vision

To provide accessible data, by and with Indigenous Peoples, that will support self-determined development and grounded advocacy towards the full and effective implementation of Indigenous Peoples' rights and self-determined development.

Our mission

We support and empower Indigenous organisations in generating and using data in their efforts to hold duty bearers accountable for their human rights violations, obligations and sustainable development commitments. Furthermore, we support the formation of alliances with key stakeholders, and the provision of quality data to relevant actors, including the United Nations, governments, national statistics agencies, media, and civil society.

The Indigenous Navigator is poised to move forward, with the goal to grow its operation and impact over the next five (5) years by:

  • Expanding our work with a wide network of Indigenous organisations, human rights organisations and institutions, stakeholders, strategic partners etc.
  • Encouraging broader use of the tools and framework of the Indigenous Navigator and make it accessible for more organisations.
  • Reaching out widely to increase contributions, information and data to monitor advancement in realising Indigenous Peoples' rights
  • Visualising and sharing the collected data that reflects the situation of Indigenous Peoples for advocacy
  • Encouraging and supporting partners (local implementers of the Indigenous Navigator), in applying for external funding for local-level activities in their countries
  • Expanding the consortium to include additional partners
  • Expanding the Indigenous Navigator’s strategic partners and network
